The Goleta Valley Library will become an independent municipal library on July 1, 2018. Allison Gray, previously our Supervising Librarian, is now the library Director. She oversees the transition process including doing a complete re-barcoding of 75,000 items, issuing new library cards to patrons, negotiating with vendors, and more.
New library cards will be issued in May. Please come to the library to exchange your old card for the new one. This quick process must be done in person, it cannot be done online.
- You can get a Goleta card independently of your address, you don't have to live in a specific area to get a Goleta library card.
- Only ONE card at a time! When you get a Goleta card, your old SBPL card won't be valid anymore. The Goleta library belongs to the Black Gold Library network so there will be no change in your borrowing materials from other libraries in the system. You will need to change the card number you used to borrow online to the number on your new card.
- Make sure all members of your family get a card! Many families use only one card to borrow materials. This does not reflect the number of our active patrons which is so important to show how indispensable the Goleta Library is to our community.
Call for volunteers to re-barcode the library materials:
The library needs LOTS of volunteers to re-label the 75,000 items in its collections. Any time you can donate will be much help. Sign up at the Circulation Desk in person or by calling the library at 964-7878.
Allison Gray will hold a training session on Saturday, April 21, 3:30-4:30 pm. If you cannot attend, you will be trained on the spot.
Please spread the word to your friends and community groups. Thank you!
