The Goleta Valley Library, a major public institution in the Goleta Valley, serves 90,000 people: 30,000 in the City of Goleta and 60,000 in County Service Area 3 . It receives over half a million visits and lends over 600,000 books and other materials to patrons every year. The library belongs to the City of Goleta but is under the management of the Santa Barbara Public Library System until June 30, 2018.
We are in the process of transitioning into an independent municipal library. Many steps are needed, from hiring a Director and forming a Library Board to issuing new library cards and redoing the bar codes on all books and materials to new contracts for our wonderful staff. The Goleta Valley Library will still belong to the Black Gold Library network, there will be no change in borrowing materials from other libraries in the Black Gold system.
