NEWS:
The Goleta Library will close in April 2025 for up to two years for structural renovations and updates. The City of Goleta is in the process of leasing 2,500 sq. ft. of office space at 6500 Hollister Avenue as a temporary library site. The library would move a small part of its collections into the new space. The remaining would be stored in the upper floor of the City of Goleta building but not accessible to the public.
Many/most of the library programs and events will have to be presented in alternate spaces TBA. No definite information at this time.
The Friends' book sale, if it continues, will have to be much smaller. The Friends will not accept donations starting February 15. We will hold a large Book Sale on March 22-23 to clear out our inventory. March your calendars and stack your shelves!

Who are The Friends?

The Friends of the Goleta Valley Library is a non-profit 501(c)(3), volunteer organization. We raise funds through membership dues, donations, a permanent book sale in the lobby of the library, and special events such as the yearly Signed and Rare Books Silent Auction.

What do we fund?

  • Our goal is to sponsor major renovations to the Children's section of the library: remodeling the heavily used children's bathrooms, replacing the patio awning, purchasing new furniture for outside programs for kids, improving the landscape in that area, and more.
  • We sponsor all Children's activities and many Adult programs: performances, craft workshops, new books for the collections and more.
  • We increase the budget for the library's online platforms where costs are based on demand. Even after the COVID pandemic, many patrons remain heavy users.
  • We supplement the book and materials budget, buy computers, shelves, carts, storage equipment and more, whatever is needed for our library.
